DVD and Blu-ray Releases: October 3, 2017

default-featured-image

There is finally a chill in the air in the Northeast this week as Halloween gets closer and closer.  There also a bunch of movies getting released on Blu-ray and DVD this week.  The only real discrepancy to discuss is Children Of The Corn, which may have already dropped on September 19th, but also had today listed on a few sites.  You should be able to pick it up somewhere.

In terms of newer movies, this week’s biggest contender would probably have to be Jackals.  You can pick that up along with Devil’s Whisper, The Midnight Man and the Halloween documentary Haunters: The Art Of The Scare.

This week also has quite a few classics coming our way.  In terms of collections, there is the Vincent Price Collection as well as the Horror Hall of Fame Gift Set.  Both of those sets will keep you entertained for hours.

Night Of The Living Dead is getting YET ANOTHER release, although this is a remaster from Mill Creek.  You can check out more information regarding that here.

Other classics that are hitting shelves this week include VampyrPopcorn, 976-Evil, The Suspicious Death Of A Minor and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.  Technically, the Chucky: The Complete 7-Movie Collection could be counted as partially classic as well.

Speaking of Chucky, Cult Of Chucky also drops this week.  If you were patient and waited for it to actually legally get a release, this one is for you.  Otherwise, shame shame…

There are plenty of other titles listed below, so I will let you get to them.  We’ll see you next week and as always, pleasant viewing.

The Suspicious Death of a Minor (1975) (2-Disc Special Edition)

Starring:

Claudio Cassinelli, Mel Ferrer

Synopsis:

In the wake of the success of Dario Argento’s ground-breaking giallo The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, numerous other directors stepped forward to try their hand at these lurid murder-mysteries. At the forefront was Sergio Martino (The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, Torso), whose sensual 70s thrillers starring Edwige Fenech and George Hilton are widely celebrated as some of the best the genre has to offer.

The final of Martino’s six gialli, The Suspicious Death of a Minor combines conventional giallo trappings with elements of the then flourishing poliziotteschi crime thrillers. Claudio Cassinelli (What Have They Done to Your Daughters?) stars as undercover cop Paolo Germi, on the trail of a Milanese criminal outfit following the brutal murder of an underage prostitute. But a killer-for-hire is also on the prowl, bumping off witnesses before they have a chance to talk…

Also starring Mel Ferrer (Nightmare City), Barbara Magnolfi (Suspiria) and Jenny Tamburi (The Psychic), and featuring a script by veteran giallo writer Ernesto Gastaldi (All the Colors of the Dark, Death Walks at Midnight), this unique and lesser-known entry in Martino’s filmography serves as an essential link between two different movements in Italian popular cinema.
