Published

on

Chad Archibald’s The Heretics is a film we’ve been talking about for a while now, and finally our friends up in the Great White North will be getting a chance to check it out for themselves! A71 Entertainment has acquired the Canadian rights from Breakthrough Entertainment to distribute the horror feature, and we have the full details for you here.

A71 will be giving the film a Canadian theatrical release through the Canadian Indie Film Series, a partnership created with Landmark Cinemas. The Heretics (review) will hit Landmark theaters for a national special event premiere on November 1, 2017. The week-long national release run will then begin on November 3, 2017. A brand new theatrical poster for the film has also been released, which you’ll find below.

In addition, A71 and Breakthrough will be partnering with Black Fawn Distribution to help bring home the occult thriller to horror fans across Canada in early 2018. It will be distributed worldwide by Breakthrough Entertainment.

Directed by Chad Archibald (Bite, The Drownsman) and produced by Black Fawn Films (Antisocial, The Sublet, Let Her Out), The Heretics has been heating up the festival circuit since its world premiere during Toronto’s 2017 Canadian Film Fest with further premieres taking place at Sitges (Spain), Hardline Film Festival (Germany), and Lund International Fantastic Film Festival (Sweden). Following in the footsteps of his previous films, Archibald’s penchant for the sticky and the stomach-churning holds true with The Heretics, which is destined to become a horror classic with fans everywhere.

The Heretics stars Nina Kiri, Jorja Cadence, Ry Barrett, Nina Richmond, and Will King. Written by Jayme Laforest (Bite), the film was produced by Archibald, Cody Calahan, and Christopher Giroux and executive produced by Nat Abraham, Ira Levy, Michael McGuigan, and Peter Williamson.

“We are thrilled to be bringing The Heretics to theaters across the country. Our motto has always been to bring entertaining films to our audiences, and this film achieves that and more,” said Chad Maker, Entertainment President, A71 Entertainment.

“Chad Archibald and Ry Barrett have worked together for a long time, and this is without a doubt their finest collaboration to date. Combine those elements with the strong performance from Nina Kiri, and The Heretics is a film that you cannot miss on the big screen. We are unbelievably excited to be a part of this release with A71,” added C.F. Benner, Sales Manager, Black Fawn Distribution.

Synopsis:
The Heretics tells the pagan tale of Gloria (Kiri), a young girl who is abducted by a troubled man (Barrett) who claims that a cult is hunting her down. His goal is to protect her until sunrise, but while restrained, Gloria falls deathly ill. While her friends and family desperately search for her, the source of her illness becomes more apparent. She’s not sick… she’s changing.

Rest in Peace: Bill Gold, Iconic Movie Poster Designer, Passes Away at 97

Published

Sad news as it’s been confirmed that iconic graphic designer Bill Gold, who was responsible for creating thousands of film posters, has passed away in his Old Greenwich, Connecticut home at 97 years old.

Gold’s career stretched back decades to the early 40’s, where he designed posters for films like Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Big Sleep, and the classic Bogart/Bergman film Casablanca. Over the next several decades, Gold would work with directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick, Desmond Davis, Oliver Stone, and many, many more. Some of his most famous works were done for many of Clint Eastwood’s westerns, William Friedkin’s The Exorcist, John Boorman’s Deliverance, Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, and a multitude of posters for the James Bond franchise.

Per THR, Gold is survived by, “…his wife, Susan, son Bob, daughter in-law Joanne, daughter Marcy, grandson Spencer, granddaughter Dylann and her fiancé Justin, great nephew Jaaron and “man’s best friend” Willoughby.”

We send our deepest condolences to his family in this sad time. However, we also send our gratitude for a man whose work fascinated and intrigued countless audiences over more than 70 years. I remember walking through a movie theater’s halls and delighting in looking at movie posters, imagining what their stories could hold. I can only believe that other children over the years looked at Gold’s work and wondered the same thing about those films.
