Idris Elba Officially Joins in the Battle for the Pacific Rim

Earlier this month we told you that Idris Elba had been offered one of the leads in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. While nothing was official back then, we received word today that the actor has closed the deal and is now on board.

Deadline is reporting that Elba will fend off alien invaders alongside Charlie Hunnam in the sci-fi / action flick which begins production this November. Elba is currently shooting another anticipated genre film … a little movie for Ridley Scott called Prometheus. If nothing else, this guy knows how to choose some pretty killer material.

We don’t know much about Pacific Rim at this point, although the premise of a futuristic alien attack threatening the existence of earth and the army of human-piloted giant robots that must fend them off sounds like one film that will be a must see. Could it get any cooler? We’ll find out as Pacific Rim takes shape. Rest assured we’ll be covering this one closely.
