Buffalo Screams Announces Festival Dates and Special Screening of The Burning

Attention Upstate New Yorkers: The Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival has released this year’s dates as well as revealing that the opening night ceremonies will include a special 30th anniversary screening of The Burning, featuring an appearance by writer and producer Roy Frumkes.

Weighing in at five days and leading up to Halloween (October 26th-30th), this is going to make Halloween plans much easier for you kids in the Northeast. The festival organizers are keeping Buffalo Screams at the same location as before – The Screening Room Cinema Cafe in Amherst.

Emil Novak, filmmaker and co-founder of the festival along with Greg Lamberson (Slime City Massacre), had this to say about Frumkes and The Burning, “The Burning was shot in Tonawanda, 20 minutes from here. We have an active independent horror filmmaking community in Buffalo, and it’s easy to pinpoint this classic 1981 slasher film as the beginning of the movement here. We’re actively searching for locals who worked on the film to participate in the festivities.”

Lamberson adds, “Roy was my teacher back at the School of Visual Arts in 1982 and 1983, and we’ve remained friends. I’ve brought him to Buffalo a number of times, and this time it’s to honor him for his important contributions to the genre, both as a filmmaker and as a teacher.”
