The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara to Act as Showrunner for The Dark Tower TV Series

Even though reviews for The Dark Tower are looking pretty grim as of now (ours will be coming shortly), it seems the powers-that-be are still interested in making the TV series a reality. To that end, Media Rights Capital and Sony Pictures Television have hired former “The Walking Dead” executive producer Glen Mazzara to act as showrunner for the adaptation, which will aim for 10 to 13 episodes for its first season, according to THR.
Mazzara tells the site, “I’ve been a Stephen King fan for decades, and the opportunity to adapt The Dark Tower as a TV series is a great honor. The events of The Gunslinger, Wizard and Glass, The Wind Through the Keyhole, and other tales need a long format to capture the complexity of Roland’s coming of age — how he became the Gunslinger, how Walter became the Man in Black, and how their rivalry cost Roland everything and everyone he ever loved. I could not be more excited to tell this story. It feels like being given the key to a treasure chest. And oh yeah, we’ll have billy-bumblers!”
Production on the series is scheduled to begin in 2018. Confirmed to cross over from the film to the show is Idris Elba, who plays Roland Deschain. He will be joined by Dennis Haysbert as Roland’s father, Steven, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers.
The series is to be based upon Wizard in Glass, the fourth book of The Dark Tower series, and will focus on a younger Roland.
