First things first: March 13th, 2009. Yes, that’s a Friday so you’ll want to plan not to spend that evening watching counselors at Camp Crystal Lake being slaughtered. Instead you’ll want to keep that evening, nay the whole weekend, free for the follow-up to the best reviewed horror game to date.
But wait, there’s more (naturally); Resident Evil 5, as previously rumored, is going to have online co-op, with you and a second player battling through crazed monsters. One will play as Chris Redfield, the other as Sheva Alomar.
The section shown off at E3 features some nice examples of co-op gameplay. Chris helps toss Sheva across to an area she couldn’t jump to by herself, and she clears out enemies on the other side while Chris lays down covering fire with a sniper rifle. She then comes around and unlocks a door chained from the other side, and the short demo comes to an end, but we can tell from our first good look at a hugely exciting mode and some pretty strong signs that it’s far from an afterthought.
Resident Evil: Zero featured a lot of co-op-esque situations and puzzles, and I’m wondering if the single player of Five may play similarly. And by the by, co-op is a feature that was originally intended for the very first game. As a big fan of the mode and the series, it’s like a dream come true for me.
RE5 looks incredible graphically, while the gameplay seems like Resident Evil 4, which is far from a bad thing. Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 owners may have to wait until March next year to play it, but you can see the footage for yourself right now courtesy of Game Trailers below!
