A few days back (specifically here) we gave you all a heads-up about a contest going down on MySpace for indie filmmakers to have their short films voted upon, the winner of which would get the chance to see a feature film produced. The main reason we pointed you there was to support our man Frazer Lee, director of “On Edge”, so hopefully he could finally see his forever-in-development Urbane finally get made.
Well, turns out it was too little too late. We got a note from Frazer that “On the Edge” didn’t make the final three cut, but he’s good-natured about it; “Just wanted to say THANK YOU guys for your overwhelming comments, bulletins, board posts, blogs! I’m hugely grateful to my supporters at Fangoria, Dread Central, Horrorfind and elsewhere on the web” Lee said in an official statement.
“My thanks to all at MySpace, Vertigo, Film4 – to be short listed in the Top 12 was a real honour & surprise.” he continued. ”Congrats and all the best to the 3 finalists. Please vote/post/argue about your faves right here!”
The blow is not just to Lee himself, but British horror films as a whole, “I am of course disappointed not to have made it through, on behalf of British Horror!” he went on, “The prevalence of romantic comedies and soap opera-esque dramas in the Brit film industry is something i find thoroughly depressing and not a little frustrating. I will continue working with my producers Joseph Alberti (Robber Baron Productions), Mark Wooding (Themroc), Stuart Scowcroft and Rezso Bodonyi (Global Entertainment Media) to find a way of bringing Urbane to the silver screen!”
Thanks to everyone who voted and got the word out about it; here’s hoping we’ll be hearing some good news about Urbane sooner rather than later!
