Cannes Horror Roundup Part 2: The Child’s Eye and More!

Kind of hard to keep up when there are lots of projects coming out of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year. On the plus side, though, many of the diverse offerings are landing on our horror radar, which we’re then happy to pass along to you!
Screen Daily tells us that Hong Kong’s Universe Films Distribution has secured North American distribution on the Pang Brothers’ (The Eye) 3D horror The Child’s Eye (sounds like they’re really shaking it up!) through Grindstone Entertainment. A box office success in the Asian market, we’re looking forward to getting the chance to give it a go.
The Hollywood Reporter opened the floodgates on an entire slew on genre-based titles, including writer/director Rowan Joffe’s (28 Weeks Later) Before I Go to Sleep – a psychological horror film about an amnesiac woman who has no memories of her married life.
Ridley Scott looks to be mentoring an adaptation of the young adult novel Blood Red Road – a post-apocalyptic work of fiction from Moira Young. Jack Throne has been tasked with penning this adaptation for Scott Free U.K., which tells the story of a girl who sets out to rescue her twin brother after he is snatched by mysterious black-robed riders who ride in on their steeds out of nowhere.
One that I’m looking forward to from Scott Free U.K. is Glen Duncan’s The Last Werewolf. The intro novel in a planned series, it details the dark, sexual tale of a 100-year-old werewolf who is thinking of giving himself up to the were-hunters at the next full moon but, on a train to Paris, is intoxicated with desire by the smell of a female werewolf.
Lots of stuff out there, and we can’t be certain that’s the last of Cannes 2011 either. With the news flying fast and furious, we’ll dig deep and make you all the first to know should we come up with any more.
