Exclusive: Nightmares Unlimited Reveals Asylum-Themed Freddy Glove and Mask

We’ve been thrilled with the work of Mark Phillips’ Nightmares Unlimited ever since we saw his Freddy/Hellraiser mash-up glove that brilliantly fused the two properties together into one astonishing piece of art.

Now, in a new piece that was done for horror-themed audio/visual creator DJ Kos, Phillips has taken the concept of Freddy’s razor glove and mashed it with items that one might find in a mental asylum, such as razors and scalpels. Additionally, a mask was created to go with the glove, resulting in an outfit that is rather terrifying, to put it mildly. The glove is coated in “blood” and looks like it’s made from the tattered remnants of a straightjacket. The mask calls to mind the one Hannibal Lecter wore in The Silence of the Lambs, only this one is more, and I say this as a compliment, rudimentary and grimy.

Phillips explained the piece to us:
DJ Kos challenged me to create for him, a never-before-seen, one-of-a-kind glove that reflected an insane asylum. Now, being a big fan of paranormal shows and watching the investigators enter all of these abandoned lunatic asylums, got the wheels in my head turning. What would be found to make a glove in these? I decided that straight razors, a scalpel, and a syringe were pretty threatening and probably common place among the staff years ago. And voilá! ASYLUM was born!

About halfway through the glove, he asked me to make a matching mask. All of the weaponry on the glove itself is vintage- razors, scalpel, and syringe. It has a full copper armature underneath a canvas and leather straight jacket designed by me and seen by my girlfriend Julie.
