Japan Has Created a Haunted House/Escape Room Combo and I Want to Try it!

If you’ve never done an escape room, I can’t recommend them enough. They’re an absolute blast because you have a limited time frame to figure out how to escape a room (obviously) you’re trapped in using only obscure clues and seemingly random hints. The tension is unreal and the urge to work as fast as possible cannot be denied. Having done one where there’s a zombie on a chain in the room only made it harder and so much more exhilarating!

Since I’ve had that experience AND, as a horror guy, I’ve been to multiple haunted houses over my life, the thought of these two worlds colliding is incredibly exciting and something I wish I could participate in! Alas, it seems like I’m not going to be able to participate as the combination, aptly dubbed Escape From an Urban Legend, is sticking to its home in Tokyo.

Per RocketNews, the attraction is based around a town where everyone has gone missing. At the center of this town and its mystery is a house that is spookily named, “The House of No Return”. Participants of the event are acting as special investigators who are called in by the police to see what’s going on. As they conduct their investigations, which includes moving furniture, rummaging through journals and books, and more, they are assaulted by terrifying scares that can come at any time.

What I love about this concept is that you have to find it within yourself to stay on your toes. Anyone who can’t maintain their cool is essentially dooming themselves to failure.

The event begins on August 2nd and will be held at Agito of Scrap in the Asakusa neighborhood in Tokyo. Ticket information is right here.
