Exclusive First Word: Violence Erupts from Steven R. Monroe’s Hole in the Desert

Post Thumb:

Steven R. Monroe is the kind of director who doesn’t mind tackling even the ballsiest of projects head on. The man just doesn’t know how to do it any other way. Today we got the first word on what the prolific filmmaker will be up to next and who his leading lady will be!

From the Press Release
Exclusive First Word: Violence Erupts from Steven R. Monroe's Hole in the DesertDirector Steven R.Monroe’s (pictured right; I Spit On Your Grave 2010) next feature film will be the revenge/action/thriller HOLE IN THE DESERT. The independently financed feature will begin principal photography in June.

The film is a violent, edgy ride focusing on the forlorn Reagan Tyler, a man who is troubled by visions and premonitions that ultimately lead him to a small desert town. It’s there that Reagan meets the beautiful and mysterious Monika, a young woman who turns out to have been killed the night before he even met her. Reagan is then forced to put the puzzle together of what happened, how she is still present, and help Monika with her revenge on the killers of her younger sister.

“All involved are very excited that we are doing this film”, Monroe, who also directed House of 9 and Complacent, said. “For me to have the opportunity to write and direct, and then on top of that be a producer makes it all that much better. Though it was also a great project to be a part of, this film is very different from I Spit On Your Grave. We are assembling a great cast for HOLE IN THE DESERT; Cerina Vincent is already onboard to play the tough, beautiful and vengeful Monika”.

“I am just thrilled to be a part of this”, says Vincent, known for her roles in such films as Cabin Fever and Not Another Teen Movie. “It’s truly an honor to work with director Steven R. Monroe again. His script is incredible– it’s got wit, edge, and depth… His vision for this will make for an edgy, sexy, suspenseful ride with moments of tenderness and some intense violence…”

Monroe says of Vincent, “This film is a departure from what people know of her and I am confident that she will be awesome”. Vincent will also carry the title of Co-Executive Producer on the film. Monroe says the rest of the cast will be revealed shortly and that the film will be completed the beginning of September 2011.
