on

Along with the good news revealed this morning that the San Diego Comic-Con will be staying in our fair city through 2021, we have full details of what upstart streaming service Netflix will be bringing to the SDCC in 2017, which includes “Stranger Things” and the new Death Note live action film.

Per the Unofficial SDCC Blog:
Go big or go home appears to be Netflix’s motto for the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, as the online streaming network will be out in full force this year.

Attendees will get three Hall H panels – starting with a split panel on Thursday, July 20, for Bright and Death Note. Attendees will get a sneak peek at David Ayer’s new film Bright, which is set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have co-existed since the beginning of time. Stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, and Edgar Ramirez and director Ayer will be on hand to offer exclusive footage and a Q&A.

Death Note, based on the Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, will also be featured with cast and filmmakers on hand to debut footage and discuss the project’s transition from graphic novel to film.

Finally, on Thursday at 10:00 PM at The Horton Grand Theater, there will be a “Netflix Surprise Screening.” You’ll need to grab a ticket for this event upstairs in the Sails Pavilion, but you can also come party in the Convention Center lobby before the screening for activities that include costume and prop displays, interactive activities, and autograph signings.

Then on Friday, July 21, “Marvel’s The Defenders” will be taking to the Hall H stage at 5:15 PM, as stars Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones (plus “guest stars galore”) offer a glimpse into the upcoming series on Netflix.

On Saturday, July 22, things start getting strange with “Stranger Things” in Hall H at 3:00 PM. While no cast members are listed yet, they promise “never-before-seen footage from the second season” that will debut on October 31.

But that’s not all Netflix is bringing. They’ll also be found at Booth #3729 on the show floor, where fans will enter an interactive brand experience to be surrounded by 360 degrees of Netflix originals. The booth will feature exclusive content, the latest information regarding cast appearances, and giveaways.

Additionally, the Netflix Experience is coming to the Hilton Gaslamp. Stop by Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 AM-8:00 PM daily or Sunday between 11:00 AM-3:00 PM for sneak peeks of upcoming originals, exclusive giveaways, and more. You’ll also be able to visit the virtual [reality] Upside Down with “Stranger Things,” get immersed into the world of Bright, and dive into the streets of New York with “Marvel’s The Defenders.”

Thelma Is Fantastic and Now You Can Watch the Opening Scene

Published

on

One of this year’s most beautiful and subdued horror films is Joachim Trier’s Thelma (review), which opens in Los Angeles tonight. To give you a bit of what the film is like, The Orchard have released the opening scene, which shows a man and his daughter hunting in the bleak Norwegian winter. When they come across a young deer, the true intentions of this trip become apparent…

Having seen Thelma, I can tell you that it’s truly something special. It’s a slow burn, to be certain, but it plays out gorgeously, resulting in a film that has yet to leave my mind.

Related Story: Exclusive Interview with Thelma’s Joachim Trier

Locations and tickets for Thelma can be found here.

Synopsis:
Thelma, a shy young student, has just left her religious family in a small town on the west coast of Norway to study at a university in Oslo. While at the library one day, she experiences a violent, unexpected seizure. Soon after, she finds herself intensely drawn toward Anja, a beautiful young student who reciprocates Thelma’s powerful attraction. As the semester continues, Thelma becomes increasingly overwhelmed by her intense feelings for Anja – feelings she doesn’t dare acknowledge, even to herself – while at the same time experiencing even more extreme seizures. As it becomes clearer that the seizures are a symptom of inexplicable, often dangerous, supernatural abilities, Thelma is confronted with tragic secrets of her past, and the terrifying implications of her powers.
