RuPaul’s Drag Race Winner Sharon Needles Discusses the Importance of Horror

Horror is, for many, a home for the outsiders, the black sheep, the so-called “other”. We’re looked at by many as freaks, as people obsessed with violence, death, and mayhem. We’re misunderstood, we’re maligned, and we’re pushed to the side where we’re given little to no respect. It’s a tough life but it’s one that I know I will gladly walk through with my head held high.
That’s why I think it’s so important to recognize how horror affects those who are on the receiving end of even more unwarranted bigotry, misunderstanding, and aggression. That’s why I want to post this video where “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner Sharon Needles discusses her love of horror and how it influenced her drag. The way she talks about horror showcases not only an understanding and passion for the genre but also a recognition of the personal impact it has had on so many different facets of her life.
We in horror are part of a community and I love seeing how diverse it can be.
