Willow Shields, The Hunger GamesTwo more up-and-coming young actors have signed on for Lionsgate’s adaptation of The Hunger Games, one of whom has quite an impressive Hollywood pedigree.

Per The Hollywood Reporter newcomer Willow Shields (pictured, right) has landed the role of main character Katniss’ younger sister, Primrose Everdeen, nicknamed Prim in the books. Shields joins Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale.

In addition, enlisting with the three actors already named as “tributes” – Leven Rambin as District 1’s Glimmer and Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg as District 11’s Thresh and Rue – is Jack Quaid, who will portray Rambin’s District 1 partner Marvel. Quaid is the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. We’re still waiting to hear if Elizabeth Banks will be confirmed as Katniss’ handler, Effie Trinket.

Look for the Gary Ross-directed film in theaters on March 23, 2012, and be sure to keep your eyes on the official The Hunger Games Facebook page and the official The Hunger Games Twitter feed for updates.

Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie will introduce heroine Katniss Everdeen, a self-sufficient 16-year-old who lives in District 12, one of the poorer districts in the nation of Panem, what used to be known as North America before its utter destruction several years earlier. Katniss becomes a participant in the Hunger Games, an annual televised tournament where one boy and one girl from each of the nation’s twelve districts must fight to the death until only one competitor, or “tribute,” is left standing.
