Another day. Another bit of casting news for The Hunger Games. Don’t be surprised if even more comes later in the day as well. That’s just how movies like this roll. Everyone wants in. The question remains though … will you want in the theatre?
Deadline reports that Leven Rambin (pictured right; “One Tree Hill”, “CSI: Miami”, “Grey’s Anatomy”) has been cast by director Gary Ross as Glimmer in The Hunger Games, District 1’s combatant who’s pitted against District 12’s Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in the battle to the death competition that makes up the first film in the series.
She joins the previously announced Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg in the Gary Ross-directed film that will be in theaters on March 23, 2012.
Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie will introduce heroine Katniss Everdeen, a self-sufficient 16-year-old who lives in District 12, one of the poorer districts in the nation of Panem, what used to be known as North America before its utter destruction several years earlier. Katniss becomes a participant in the Hunger Games, an annual televised tournament where one boy and one girl from each of the nation’s twelve districts must fight to the death until only one competitor, or “tribute,” is left standing.
