We love Japan, all the goodness and madness they have given us – we owe them a huge debt. From Gojira to insanely brutal warrior schoolgirls, there is a lot for us to love.

2011 hasn’t been great for our friends in the East. Unless you have been under a significantly large rock for the last month or so, you know about the earthquakes and tsunamis that have plagued Japan. People have been stepping up to lend support in a big way, and now it’s our genre’s turn.

That’s why Rue Morgue magazine and film label Sushi Tyhpoon filmmakers from Japan, are teaming up with theatres across North America beginning this month for SPLATTER MATTERS, a multi-city benefit film tour in support of recovery efforts focusing on the devastation of the Tohoku Earthquake of March 11th and the subsequent tsunami, via Japan Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

Premiering this April 28 in New York and including stops in Texas, Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Saskatoon and Toronto (more TBA), the tour will showcase a variety of Sushi Typhoon’s high-energy splatter comedies, including HELLDRIVER, KARATE-ROBO ZABORGAR, MUTANT GIRLS SQUAD and ALIEN VS NINJA. Programmers across North America will be participating in the screenings through the support of Sushi Typhoon with a portion of the box office proceeds donated to the Relief Fund. Limited edition posters for the event, courtesy of Rue Morgue designers Gary Pullin and Justin Erickson, will also be for sale at the screenings with proceeds going to the Relief Fund.
