And the casting news for The Hunger Games remains white hot, as yet another young actor is vying for a part in the new tweener craze which may just dethrone Twilight as the reigning king of the youngsters’ hearts.
According to Variety Elizabeth Banks (pictured right) is in talks to star in The Hunger Games as Effie Trinket, the flaky bureaucrat who escorts her district’s young death-match contestants to their fate.
If she signs, she’ll star opposite the previously announced Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg in the Gary Ross-directed film that will be in theaters on March 23, 2012.
Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie will introduce heroine Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence), a self-sufficient 16-year-old who lives in District 12, one of the poorer districts in the nation of Panem, what used to be known as North America before its utter destruction several years earlier. Katniss becomes a participant in the Hunger Games, an annual televised tournament where one boy and one girl from each of the nation’s twelve districts must fight to the death until only one competitor, or “tribute,” is left standing.
