The web truly is a wonderful thing. With the ability to get news as it happens rather than waiting every month for a magazine to come out, and with the avenue open for directors to get directly in touch with fans, there’s never been a better time to be a horror fan.

Director Paco Plaza is fully aware of this and has decided to use the web to take fans behind the scenes of his upcoming film REC 3: Genesis. Below you’ll find his first (translated) blog and even a Spanish language (no subs) video. Dig it!

Paco Plaza here. This is the first in a series of videos that I will share with you so you can experience the filming of ‘REC3’. I will present them during the next few weeks along with details of the shoot. It will be an interesting look at the many people who contribute to making the movie (crew, actors …). I hope you like it. To begin with, I’ll introduce you to the ‘cube’ that accompanies us when we make movies. The candy and bakery products help us to face the shoot.”

Yeah, it’s nothing meaty, but we’re sure as time goes on it will get a lot crazier. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for you.

“The original REC crew are back, ready to submit their ensemble cast to another fight for survival against the zombie infection. This time to the backdrop of an original soundtrack.

The new chapter will see the film ‘open up’ by using a more traditional cinematographic style. However, the film’s roots have not been forgotten, and viewers will still be immersed in the action watching certain events unfold through the eye of the video camera. The action in REC 3 GENESIS encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced.

The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building.

In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment: the future REC 4 Apocalypse.”
