Snowpiercer Next Stop for Alison Wright and Benjamin Haigh

More casting news has arrived for TNT’s small screen series version of “Snowpiercer.” Joining the previously announced Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Annalise Basso, Sasha Frolova, will be Alison Wright (pictured; “The Americans”) and Benjamin Haigh (The Conjuring 2).
Per Deadline Wright will play Lilah Anderson. She is careful and quiet but a pragmatic and independent thinker. Lilah lives with her husband and daughter in a fourth-class cabin and works in the train’s nail salon. Lilah doesn’t know how strong she is, but she’ll soon be forced to find out.
Haigh will portray Fergus McConnell, who lives in the back of the train amongst poverty. He helps his mother care for his sick father, and does his best to contribute to the daily struggles of life in this part of the train.
The “Snowpiercer” pilot, a futuristic thriller based on the acclaimed 2013 feature by Bong Joon-ho, is directed by Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson. It’s set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, and the remnants of humanity inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. It explores class warfare, social injustice, and the politics of survival.
Connelly plays Melanie Cavill, a First Class passenger who works as the Voice of the Train; Diggs plays Layton Well, a prisoner who becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train; Sumner will play Bess Till the thoughtful, empathetic, and savvy part of the train’s security force. Basso will play LJ Anderson, a quiet, diligent, Midwestern girl who lives with her parents in a fourth-class cabin and works in the greenhouse car. Poor but not as desperate as those that live in the tail of the train, LJ has made peace with her daily routine until a major event shakes up her world; Frolova will portray Pixi Aariak. Pixi is strange, mysterious, and inscrutable, a charismatic chameleon and probably inspired by the expression “still waters run deep.” She returns to the front of the train after a three-year sentence in the prison car and struggles to acclimate to her old life. You can’t take your eyes off of her. And you probably shouldn’t.
“Snowpiercer,” a co-production among Marty Adelstein/ITV Studios’ Tomorrow Studios, Turner’s Studio T, and CJ Entertainment, is exec produced by writer/showrunner Josh Friedman; director Derrickson; Tomorrow Studios’ Adelstein and Becky Clements; and the original film’s Bong Joon-ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi.
