Another cast member has signed on for Fox’s “The Passage,” a series based on Justin Cronin’s fantasy book trilogy… Vincent Piazza (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Rescue Me”) will star opposite the previously announced Mark-Paul Gosselaar in the network’s vampire drama pilot.

The drama begins as a character-driven government conspiracy thriller and morphs into a post-apocalyptic saga with vampires. The potential series spans over a century and focuses on a young girl named Amy (Saniyya Sidney), who must save the human race.

Per THR, Piazza will take on the role of Clark Richards, a brilliant hyper-charmer with a restless energy, fierce intelligence, and a dark sense of humor. Gosselaar is Wolgast, a federal agent still reeling from a recent tragedy that has effectively destroyed his marriage. The cast also includes Genesis Rodriguez, Brianne Howey, B.J. Britt, and Jennifer Ferrin.

The pilot is written by Liz Heldens (“Friday Night Lights”), who exec produces the 20th Century Fox Television drama alongside Matt Reeves, Adam Kassan, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and Marcos Siega, with the latter tapped to direct.

The story is told in two timelines: In the present, 10-year-old Amy Bellafonte seems to have special powers that allow her to communicate with “virals,” terrifying monsters that once were human. Through flashbacks, Amy tells her tale, which is directly tied to the genesis of these creatures.

The pilot shoots in Atlanta beginning this month.
