John Carpenter’s In The Mouth of Madness to Screen at the New Beverly

In the Mouth of Madness is the last great John Carpenter film and the final installment in his unofficial ‘Apocalypse Trilogy’ (beginning with The Thing and followed by Prince of Darkness). If you’re a California resident and can get to the New Beverly Theater on April 16th, you’re not going to be sorry.

Our good friend BC over at Horror Movie a Day will be hosting this midnight showing, which features a Q & A with the film’s producer (and Lady Carpenter) Sandy King.

It’s all happening on Saturday, April 16th, at 11:59 PM at the esteemed New Beverly Cinema, 7165 Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles. Tickets will set you back a mere 7 bucks (cash only). Alternately, you’ll also be able to order your tickets at Brown Paper Tickets, although they’re not yet available there.

I really can’t understand the appeal of this film. I’ve seen it numerous times, and every single viewing has bored the shit out of me. There are no effective scares, the makeup FX are some of the worst I’ve seen out of KNB, and Julie Carmen gives one of the most unintentionally funny performances I’ve seen in a horror film that I can remember. The only two things that keep it from being absolute shit are Sam Neill and Jurgen Prochnow. I could watch those two simply conversing at a bus stop.

I don’t blame Carpenter for the mess though. Great concept, shitty script.

Glad to know I’m not alone. The love for this film truly escapes.
