You’ve Never Heard the Psycho Theme Quite Like This

The Psycho theme by composer Bernard Herrmann is one of the most iconic and classic examples of brilliant horror music. From it’s percussive stabbing opening to the haunting urgency presented throughout, it has withstood the test of time and rightfully so. It’s a masterpiece, plain and simple.

However, that doesn’t mean that it can’t get played around with. Every once in a while, taking something and giving it a fresh twist is a great way to not only appreciate the original piece but to see how versatile and malleable it can be. Enter Neil Cicierega, mashup artist extraordinaire.

Neil took Herrmann’s Psycho theme and mashed it against a song that normally shouldn’t work: The B-52’s “Love Shack”. I don’t know how he did it but Neil’s final output is something that is genuinely eerie. All the upbeat joy and catchiness from “Love Shack” is gone, replaced by a surreal and dizzying experience that is, at least for me, nothing short of spooky as hell.

Check it out below and, if you want more like that, you can download the song and the album it’s from for free right here.
