Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” actor Henry Zaga has joined on to Josh Boone’s New Mutants in the role of Sunspot, according to Variety. Zaga joins the previously cast Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Morgan), Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”), Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”), and Rosario Dawson (Clerks 2, “Daredevil”).

New Mutants is in pre-production and has been set for an April 13, 2018, opening. The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is helming from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee about teenage superheroes-mutants.

Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt are producing. Fox announced last month that it was dating three Marvel movies for 2018 — New Mutants for April 13, Deadpool 2 for June 1, and Dark Phoenix for November 2.

We’re covering this film because Boone has explained that he’s planning on taking the film and, “…making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.

Synopsis:
Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.
