Host Sequel Bong-less

Host sequel plannedI really don’t know how I feel about sequel to The Host (review) without the brilliance of Bong Joon-ho behind the camera, but I guess that’s not really up to me, is it?

No, no it’s not.

The Korean Times reported that Chungeorahm Films, which produced the original Host, is moving forward with plans for a sequel despite the fact that Bong Joon-ho has chosen to work on other things. The same monster design will be used, but the (other) big difference is that this time all the effects are going to be done in-house, without the use of Weta to help bring the monster to life. “We have gathered technical know-how from making The Host,” said CEO Choi Yong-bae. “I think we can use domestic CG technology this time.”

Well, that’s a bit scary, no? The superstar director out and a possibly badly-done re-imagining of his creature for the sequel? No word on the plot, though I would guess the story will follow a sibling of the first film’s monster causing mayhem in South Korea. Keep it here for more updates as we learn them!
