Alien: Covenant Begins Overseas Roll-out with $42 Million and 19 No. 1’s

The U.S. will see Alien: Covenant arrive this coming Friday, but the film’s overseas roll-out has already begun, and the results are pretty impressive. Alien: Covenant nabbed $42 million in 34 markets, out of which it hit No. 1 in 19, including South Korea and the UK.

Overall, it was the No. 2 studio movie at the international box office (behind behemoth Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).

Per Deadline, Korea led the offshore box office with $7.2M, followed by the UK ($6.4M), France ($4.5M), Australia ($3.1M), and Mexico ($2.5M). All were No. 1 bows except Mexico. Other key No. 1’s were Spain ($1.9M), Hong Kong ($1.8M), and Italy ($1.3M). The film’s 157 IMAX screens garnered $2.1M in 28 markets. In the UK eight of the Top 10 runs were in IMAX.

Alien: Covenant‘s global IMAX expansion includes 32 additional territories, the U.S. among them. Overall, it opens in 52 overseas markets in the coming week, including Germany, Russia, and Sweden. China factors in beginning on June 16th.

Weekend Box Office

Look for Alien: Covenant (review) in the U.S. on May 19th with select preview screenings occurring the night before.

Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby star in Alien: Covenant. Ridley Scott directed the film, which was written by John Logan and Dante Harper based on a story by Jack Paglen and Michael Green.

Synopsis:
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
