Jennifer Lawrence To Play Hunger Games for Lionsgate?

Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ futuristic novel The Hunger Games is getting set to land itself quite the leading lady in Best Actress Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), and we’ve got the 411 on what to expect if she signs.

According to Variety Lawrence is close to getting an offer to star as Katniss in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, which the studio is hoping to be the next big tweener franchise once the sun goes down on The Twilight Saga.

The Hunger Games, first published in the fall of 2008, takes place in a society in which districts pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl who are forced to fight to the death on live TV.

Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie will introduce 16-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen, who must participate in a fight-to-the-death annual event. Each battle will pit youths from each of the Capitol’s 12 districts against each other.

Look for the Gary Ross directed flick in theatres on March 23, 2012.
