Are you ready for Takashi Miike to get even gorier? That’s what Emperor Motion Picture’s May Yip, who is their head of international sales, tells Variety about their newly announced upcoming Ichi the Killer restoration.

Talking to the site, Yip explains, “Miike is prolific, but ‘Ichi the Killer’ stands out as something special. Unfortunately, the materials were in very poor condition as it was shot in Beta and only later converted to 35mm. So, given that there was enduring interest and licenses expiring, we took the decision to restore it. The result will be better, even gorier.”

Ichi the Killer came out in 2001 and was based on Hideo Yamamoto manga series. As of 2009, the film has been banned in Norway, Malaysia, and Germany due to its graphic depictions of violence and sadism.
