Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Gets Recut as a Horror Film

Sam Raimi is one of those horror icons that I feel gets forgotten or put to the side when any discussion of “horror icons” comes up. I’m not saying that he isn’t deserving of the title, nor am I saying that he shouldn’t be a part of the discussion. Rather, I’m simply saying that people naturally gravitate towards John Carpenter, George Romero, Wes Craven, Clive Barker, Stephen King, etc… before thinking of Sam Raimi.

I wonder if that’s because of the fact that on top of doing great horror films, Raimi has also ventured well out of the realm of horror and delved into superheroes, westerns, fantasy, and even psychological drama thrillers. With such a varied resume under his belt, it’s easy to see how people might not leap to his horror offerings, no matter how wonderful the Evil Dead trilogy is or how much fun Drag Me to Hell might be.

That’s why I really enjoy the below trailer recut, which takes Raimi’s 2002 superhero film Spider-Man and turns it into a psychological horror movie. It’s not flawless but it gets the job done exceedingly well and it ends up looking like something Raimi might have done if allowed to go down the horror route!
