This Day in Horror History: Happy Birthday, Lance Henriksen

On this day in horror history, Lance James Henriksen was born in Manhattan, New York in 1940. Henriksen is perhaps best known around these parts as Bishop from writer-director James Cameron’s Aliens. That said, he is also known for roles such as Frank Black on Millenium as well as classics like Near Dark, The Terminator, Man’s Best Friend, and Pumpkinhead.

Not to mention other genre classics such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Damien: Omen II, Piranha II: The Spawning, Nightmares, The Horror Show, The Pit and the Pendulum, Alien 3, Hard Target, No Escape, The Quick and the Dead, Scream 3, The Mangler 2, Mimic 3: Sentinel, Alien vs. Predator, Hellraiser: Hellworld, Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes, When a Stranger Calls (The Stranger’s voice), Abominable, Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud, Jennifer’s Body, and Harbinger Down.

He has also lent his talents to TV shows such as Tales from the Crypt, The X-Files, Hannibal, and The Strain. And more “mainstream” movies such as Sidney Lumet’s Dog Day Afternoon and Network, as well as Philip Kaufman’s The Right Stuff, Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man, and Powder.
