Texas Frightmare Weekend Less Than a Week Away

It’s getting serious up in here. In just a few days, Texas Frightmare Weekend will begin in Grapevine, Texas at the Hyatt DFW. This year’s show is shaping up to be the biggest, baddest, most epic con in the history of them all, and I can’t wait.

As these things happen, some last minute changes have occurred.  “Stranger Things” Season 2 isn’t finished, and all of the “Stranger Things” castmembers scheduled for the show have been forced to withdraw.  Millie Bobby Brown canceled a few weeks back due to exhaustion (the poor kid is 13, starring in a TV show, and keeping a busy con schedule) but now Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo have been forced to cancel as well.

Meanwhile, AMC, in their infinite wisdom, have chosen to schedule mandatory photo shoots on Saturday for all cast members of “The Walking Dead.”  Not shooting for the show: publicity photos.

Yeah.

This means that the three “Walking Dead” cast members scheduled for this year’s show will not be there on Saturday.  Pollyanna MacIntosh is a total trooper and will still appear Friday and Sunday.  Austin Emilio and Tom Payne will now be there on Sunday only, and all “Walking Dead” photoshoots have been rescheduled for Sunday.  The good news is, if anyone had a photoshoot schedule for Saturday and only had a Saturday ticket, the good folks at Frightmare will swap your ticket for a Sunday pass free of charge so you can still get your photos.

Outside of those hiccups, it’s GAME ON with a guest list like no other.  Dario Argento and much of the cast from Suspiria, along with Goblin member Claudio Simonetti.   Reunions/celebrations of Rob Zombie’s 31, Carpenter’s The Thing, the original Fright Night, The Nightmare Before Christmas, “Bates Motel”, the original Hills Have Eyes, and Friday The 13th Part V.  Rock stars.  Wrestling legends.  Writers.  Directors.  Man, I’m not even going to sit here and type this whole thing, it’s unbelievably massive.  Go check out the entire guest list at the Texas Frightmare Weekend website and prepare your mind to be blown.

Of course there will also be over a dozen films screened, several epic panels, the Frightmakers 101 seminars, a massive party themed to The Thing with film-level sets and FX courtesy of Dark Hour Haunted House, scaraoke, a trivia contest, enough vendors to fill a shopping mall, and shenanigans that will shake the heavens themselves…or at least thoroughly freak out any “norms” who chose a very strange weekend to stay at this hotel.

It all starts Friday evening and it keeps right on going till Sunday afternoon.  I’ll be there covering it all and live-tweeting it as I can, so be sure to watch @mrdarkdc on Twitter for exclusive pics and coverage.  In the days following the show, coverage will start flowing like a river of blood out of an elevator on Dread Central with news, reviews, and photos from  the show.

Online ticket sales end May 2nd, so grab them NOW or check out the site for more details.

Wish me luck.  I’m old and slow, and it’s entirely possible I won’t survive the madness that awaits me.  If I’m not back by sunup on Monday…call the president.
