Published

on

We’re just a few days away from the premiere of “American Gods” on Starz, and the network has unveiled another introductory video for one of the show’s main characters… step right up and meet Mr. Nancy, portrayed by Orlando Jones.

Mr. Nancy is the African trickster spider god. A god of knowledge and speech, he is happy to share his gifts with anyone who will listen. Will that include you this weekend?

“American Gods” kicks off on Sunday, April 30th. Be sure to check out Ted’s review of Episodes 1.01-1.04 to help whet your appetites even further.

“American Gods” stars Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon), Kristin Chenoweth (Easter, aka Ostara), Jeremy Davies (Jesus Christ), Emily Browning (Laura Moon), Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday), Pablo Schreiber (Mad Sweeney), Orlando Jones (Mr. Nancy), Yetide Badaki (Bilquis), Bruce Langley (Technical Boy), Corbin Bernsen (Vulcan), Crispin Glover (Mr. World), Demore Barnes (Mr. Ibis), Jonathan Tucker (Low Key Lyesmith), Gillian Anderson (Media), Peter Stormare (Czernobog), Dane Cook (Robbie), and Cloris Leachman (Zorya Vechernyaya).

The series is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed contemporary fantasy novel of the same name, which has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity, and drugs.

“American Gods” is produced by FremantleMedia North America. Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Heroes”) and Michael Green (“The River,” “Kings,” “Heroes”) are writers and showrunners. David Slade (“Hannibal,” The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) is directing the pilot and additional episodes.

Synopsis:
When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality and his place in it.

Robert Pattinson Joins The Lighthouse From the Director of The Witch

Published

on

Robert Eggers made us all turn our heads with his directing debut The Witch a few years back, and so we are eagerly awaiting his new film The Lighthouse from RT Features and A24.

“I am extremely happy to be working with RT, A24, and Parts & Labor again,” Eggers says. “Along with New Regency, they are providing me and my collaborators with the support and freedom to make this film the way it needs to be made. It’s a privilege.”

Last week we learned that Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of Eggers’ new film and today we have word via Deadline that Robert Pattinson will be joining in on the spooky fun as well.

RT Features’ Teixeira called Pattinson “one of the most talented actors working today. We are excited to work with him and Eggers, a singular filmmaker whose unique vision we support. Our collaboration on The Witch was flawless, and we look forward to reuniting along with our partners at A24, Parts & Labor and New Regency.”

The film is being described as “a fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths” and is all set to go into production in the spring.

A24 said in a statement that they are “beyond excited to be partnering again with Rob Eggers, a true visionary and one of the great filmmakers of his generation. This new script blew us away — it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous and beautiful all at the same time. We can’t wait to work with Rob and his team and our partners at RT Features, Parts & Labor and New Regency to help bring this story to life.”

A24 acquired worldwide rights and will distribute the film in the U.S. New Regency (The Revenant) has joined the project as a co-financier.

“I love that we’re getting the band back together again,” Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy says. “This time with old friend and new star player Youree Henley. Like The Witch, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

We’ll let you know as soon as we hear more on Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse, but until then let us know what you think thus far below!

The film is directed by Robert Eggers (The Witch) from a script by Eggers and Max Eggers. Rodrigo Teixeira and Lourenço Sant’ Anna are producing alongside Jay Van Hoy and Youree Henley and the film stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.

The Lighthouse begins shooting this spring.

Maisie Williams Says The New Mutants Ten Month Delay Is A Good Thing

Published

on

Recently we learned that Fox has pushed back the April 2018 release of their X-Men horror movie The New Mutants by a whopping 10 months.

The film from director Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) will now be released in February of 2019 and while that may give some people cause for alarm, star Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”) feels that the delayed release is a good thing.

“Well, it was always a really quick turn around,” Williams told Collider in a recent interview. “And there was always battles of how they were going to manage it. We finished in September and they were going to release in April and there’s- it’s a mutant film, there’s a lot of effects.”

“There’s a lot of work that goes into the movie,” she continues. “They really make the movie after we finish shooting, so there was always kind of a bit nervous, really. I know how long this sort of thing takes on Game of Thrones and I know the work that they want to put in is- it’s a huge job. Actually, I think it’s for the better. I think it’s good that we’ve got more time. We’re not so strapped and up against it. It gives us time- it gives me time to get to know the project once its finalized.”

Fair enough, I say. These movies no matter how contained they try to be will always feature a great number of SFX and so, yes, it makes sense that taking more time on said FX and getting them right will only stand to benefit the final film.

Do you agree with Williams in that pushing the film back (almost) a full year is a good thing? Let us know below.

The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone and stars Anya Taylor-Joy (THE WITCH), Maisie Williams (GAME OF THRONES), Charlie Heaton (STRANGER THINGS), and Alice Braga (CITY OF GOD).

The film is set to hit February 22, 2019.

Synopsis:

A diverse cadre of teens are learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
