Massachusetts residents, take note of the Boston Underground Film Festival. We don’t get much in the way of genre film fests out this way so it’s our duty to support this stuff when it happens, yes? In addition to buying a ticket and partaking in the glorious debauchery, read on to find out how you can give these fine folks a hand ensuring that BUFF ’11 goes off without a hitch.
A grassroots celebration of the horrific and insane wonders of cinema, BUFF enters its thirteenth year this March. It goes without saying that these films aren’t exactly mainstream, meaning it can be a bit of a tough sell when it comes to programming an entire week of celluloid oddities. That means the good folks behind BUFF are taking donations via Kickstarter in the hopes of hitting a $5,500 goal. They’ve got a little over $3k at this point and we’ve got about one week to go.
It can certainly be expensive being a horror fan in this day and age, but if you can spare it, the cash here goes to putting on one hell of a show. Just dig on this delightful promo and get ready what what will hopefully be a wild and crazy ride this March 24th to the 31st.
BUFF XIII will open with the eagerly anticipated Sundance sensation HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN starring Rutger Hauer. Director/producer team Jason Eisener and Rob Cotterrill, the team behind the award-winning short TREEVENGE, are planned to be in attendance. Other selections include the New England premieres of Adam (POP SKULL) Wingard’s A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE, Caleb (DIE YOU ZOMBIE BASTARDS!) Emerson’s FRANKIE IN BLUNDERLAND, and Usama (NICE BOMBS) Alshaibi’s PROFANE. Also in the lineup are the North American premiere of DEADGIRL scribe Trent Haaga’s directorial debut CHOP, a work-in-progress screening of Adam Mason’s long awaited LUSTER, Lucky McKee’s THE WOMAN, and (just added) Sion Sono’s COLD FISH.
Mark (NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD) Hartley’s doc MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED! will also screen as a double feature with Eddie Romero’s 1973 schlock-classic TWILIGHT PEOPLE.
Stay tuned as even more exciting selections will be released in the coming weeks.
