Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula created what is now the most famous bloodsucker in history. The tale of the titular character, Jonathan Harker, his fiancee Mina, and Abraham van Helsing, as well as other characters, has become the foundation for countless films, video games, books, comics, and more. But did you know that the book wasn’t all that successful upon release and could very well have fallen by the wayside were it not for Nosferatu?

That’s the topic of a recent TedEd video, which delves into the story’s history and investigates why it has such renown today. Additionally, it briefly discusses the history of vampires, which have been a part of folklore for nearly a millennia.

It’s a very well done video with charming animations. Plus, it condenses the information into six minutes, so you can learn something to share with your friends and family in no time!
