Byzantium and Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem Coming from Number 9 Films

Number 9 FilmsAccording to Variety Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen’s London-based Number 9 Films is developing an adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s tome Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem with Kick-Ass scribe Jane Goldman.

The crime story, set up with Film4 and the U.K. Film Council, is set against the music halls of Victorian London and follows a Jack-the Ripper-style serial killer nicknamed the Limehouse Golem and the rise and fall of a vaudeville star.

Blighty-born Goldman’s scriptwriting credits also include Stardust, The Debt and upcoming releases The Woman in Black and X-Men: First Class.

Number 9 is also in talks with helmer Neil Jordan to direct Byzantium, based on Moira Buffini’s eponymous play. The flick tells the story of a pair of women who claim to be vampire siblings.
