Battle of Los Angeles Airing for Free on Syfy March 12th!

No. Battle: Los Angeles will not be airing for free on Syfy 24 hours after it opens in theaters. Don’t be silly. Did you not notice the word “of” between “Battle” and “Los Angeles”? What do you suppose that could mean?

If you answered “a new Asylum mockbuster”, you win the mega no-prize.

Though it’s not due on DVD until March 15th (with the Blu-ray coming a week later on March 22nd), Syfy will be premiering The Asylum’s Battle OF Los Angeles on March 12th free of charge just one day after Battle: Los Angeles invades multiplexes. Think anyone confused will tune in thinking they’re going to see the big screen film and wonder why they’re watching Kel Mitchell and Nia Peeples battling aliens in SoCal instead of Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez?

In February, 1942, US forces engaged an unidentified flying object above Los Angeles. Now, almost 70 years later, the alien invaders have returned.

Battle of Los Angeles was written and directed by Mark Atkins, the maker of such other Asylum offerings as Princess of Mars and Merlin and the War of the Dragons. Atkins informed me in an email a short while back that certain sequences will employ a mix of comic book style action and cinema-verite sequences and to expect more than one variety of extraterrestrial invader.

Look for Battle of Lost Angeles on Syfy Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 9/8 Central. Expect a trailer shortly.
