Man, James Franco has come a long way since “Freaks and Geeks”. After nabbing the Oscar nod, it seems that everyone is in a mad dash to get the thesp to sign on to their flicks. Case in point: the live action adaptation of Akira.
According to Just Jared James Franco is in talks to star as the lead role Kaneda in the Albert Hughes directed feature film for Warner Brothers. As always, file this under rumor until official confirmation comes, but still, he’s an interesting choice to say the least.
Akira will be based off of anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s six-volume cyberpunk manga of the same name. The film is set in New Manhattan, where the leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment that nearly causes the apocalypse.
