Super 8 Monster Reveal? What Do YOU Think?

And the speculation wagon keeps on trucking for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming monster mash, Super 8. Frame-by-frame screen caps taken directly from the Super Bowl XLV TV spot have revealed what could very well be the first ever teaser look at the movie’s creature. Or … it could be nothing at all.

In fact for folks who enjoying poking around there are several hidden images within the trailer including references to “Lost”, etc. To dig on them, head on over to Bloody Disgusting. Here we’re only interested in a single shot from the trailer, one that looks to show off what could be the beast’s mouth with its lower jaw hanging agape surely in mid-roar.

“The Paramount Pictures release is set in Ohio in 1979 and introduces a troupe of six youngsters who are using a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One fateful night, their project takes them to a lonely stretch of rural railroad tracks and, as the camera rolls, calamity strikes — a truck collides with an oncoming locomotive and a hellacious derailment fills the night with screaming metal and raining fire. Then something emerges from the wreckage, something decidedly inhuman.”

Dig on the image below and tell us what you think. Super 8 opens in theatres on June 10th.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Mysterious advertising needs to FUCK OFF RIGHT NOW, okay?

    • MouthForWar

Yeah, god forbid a movie tries to keep some sort of mystery for the viewer.

Personally, I miss the days of going into something not knowing what it is, like when ALIEN came out. Viewers get everything from trailers now where they show the whole movie. They need more of that these days and Abrams is doing just that.

“Yeah, god forbid a movie tries to keep some sort of mystery for the viewer.”

And God forbid a movie’s advertising hints at mysterious stuff going down and then actually delivers on it rather than create a snowball of empty hype that leads nowhere. Yeah, I’m looking at you, pointless ‘Cloverfield’ Slusho bollocks and all that undersea drilling shite. What the hell was all that about, exactly? Nothing. Absolutely pointless hyping shit that led nowhere.

This whole ‘Super 8′ overhype of “OMG Something Mysteriously Exciting’s Coming!” feels like more of the same to me. We had all of that Rocket Poppeteers shit. Spot the mysterious whatever in the images! Go to the website, find some other nonsense, it’ll hint at something mysterious! Get excited!!

And now we’ve got the trailers. What is it, what is it in the micro-glimpse caught on screen deliberately to create a buzz of mystery around the film?!!

Nothing. It’ll be a whole bunch of underwhelming nothing. Because mysterious hints are far more full of exciting potential than the eventual non pay-off that these hype-machine movies tend to plop into our laps.

“We are bad guys. That means we’ve got more to do other than bullying companies. It’s fun to lead a bad man’s life.”

From the looks of it, a blob of nothing.
