David R. Ellis Fighting For Greatest Movie Title Ever – Untitled 3D Shark Thriller

So what’s in a name? If you’re David R. Ellis, just the facts! Ellis has long been known as a director who isn’t afraid to embrace the camp value of his various projects, and if he has his way, the film formerly known as Shark Night 3D will have a pretty polarizing moniker.

During an interview with New York Magazine’s Vulture Ellis was pretty blunt about his feelings toward the film’s title.

“I hated the original title [Shark Night 3D], too,” says Ellis, reached in his editing bay, “so at our weekly production meetings, I made everyone on the crew come up with names — Chums, Fins, Terror on the Lake — but they all seemed kind of cheesy. And so until I hear a better name, I like what we’ve got right now: Untitled 3D Shark Thriller. The title says everything you need to know: ‘We’ve got sharks’; ‘It’s in 3D’; and ‘It’s a thriller.'”

The flick stars Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka.

The story, penned by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, surrounds a group of college friends spending a weekend at a house on the lake, only to find a shark lurking. Gotta hate when that happens!

Look for the flick to be swimming into theatres on September 2nd, 2011.
