CinemaCon 2017: New Cloverfield Universe Film Confirmed to Be Coming This October

Ever since it was revealed that 10 Cloverfield Lane took place in the same universe as 2008’s Cloverfield, fans are watching everything J.J. Abrams does like a hawk, trying to see if any other projects might fit into that world as well. Since then, it’s been confirmed that God Particle, which focuses on a group of astronauts aboard an international space station who make a shocking discovery and must fight for their survival, is indeed part of the ever-growing universe.

Over at CinemaCon, they’ve revealed that a new Cloverfield project will premiere on October 27, 2017. Now, what makes this interesting is that this is the confirmed release date for God Particle. However, that film isn’t new. In fact, it’s been known for several months. So could this be a confirmation that Overlord, the supernatural horror World War II film produced by Abrams, is taking the Cloverfield universe into the past? That film doesn’t have a release date so there’s a possibility that this might be the case.

On the other hand, if they’re expecting me to believe that two Cloverfield-related films will be in theaters at the same time, they’re gonna have a hard time with that one. Sure, the films are radically different in concept, but dropping them both at the same time would be one hell of a financial risk. Expecting people to be willing to double-dip at theaters is a gamble, no matter what the films are.

What are your thoughts? Is this “new Cloverfield project” simply God Particle? Is it Overlord? Or is it something else entirely that hasn’t been announced yet?
