New D-War Trailer, No Date

ANOTHER D-War trailer!Yippee! Yet another new trailer for D-War, the big budget South Korean/US monster mash that’s been eight years in the making and still doesn’t appear to be any closer to getting released … well, anywhere, has just popped up on the web. Yeah, the monster stuff looks like a blast (though I find myself watching this trailer and wondering if Robert Forster was actually awake when he filmed his scenes), but I don’t know about you, but I’m reaching a “put up or shut up” point with D-War. I’m sick of writing articles about this movie that don’t involve an actual release date. It’s to the point that I just don’t have it in me to once again recount the saga of D-War for those out of the loop. Here’s the cliff notes:

From the maker of Yongarry/Reptilian

$70 million budget…

Robert Forster…

Jason Behr…

Based on a Korean myth…

Giant snake-dragon monster called Imoogi…

Other giant monsters and a supernatural army…

Yadda yadda yadda…

I realize the word of mouth coming out of its screening at last year’s American Film Market was pretty much along the lines of “great effects, lousy everything else,” but since when has that ever stopped a motion picture from getting a theatrical release? In the case of D-War, that seems to be the case since it’s having a hell of a time finding any distribution that gives the makers a chance in hell of getting a dime of that $70 million budget back.

I have a thought. D-War is having trouble getting distribution. Uwe Boll’s In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale is also having trouble finding a distributor. Since both films boast heavy fantast elements, I say some enterprising producer should release them together as a double feature package ala Grindhouse.

Oh, wait… I forgot. Nobody saw Grindhouse. Never mind.
