La La Land Trailer Gets Recut as a David Lynch Thriller

While I’m not a fan of musicals in the slightest (Cannibal! The Musical being the rare exception), I do love me some David Lynch. The man’s ability to craft films that make you feel as though you’re slowly losing your mind is undeniable; and the way he uses music, color, imagery, and framing to construct a wonderfully surreal experience is simply astounding.

I think that’s why it’s so entertaining to see CineFix put together this faux trailer for La La Land as though it were a film directed by Lynch.

Originally directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land follows Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) as they try to make their dreams come true in Los Angeles. Considering how Mulholland Drive takes place in the same city and has a somewhat similar foundation (Watts is an aspiring actress), this mashup works better than many others. Plus, it pokes fun/pays homage to many Lynch-isms that we’ve come to know and love over the years.
