Examining Stranger Things 2’s Super Bowl TV Spot; Close Encounters Coming?

For a trailer that clocked in well under a minute, the Super Bowl TV spot for what’s being called “Stranger Things 2” sure told us a lot. The first season felt like the best movie an in his prime Steven Spielberg never made, and what’s next looked to have more than just a little in common with the Spielberg classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Are aliens descending upon Hawkins, Indiana? Let’s look at some screencaps from the trailer that point to that being the case.
A normal night in 1984 outside the local arcade.
Suddenly lights begin to appear in the sky.
A few frames later the lights are MUCH closer.
Akin to sculpting the Devil’s Tower in Close Encounters of the Third Kind from mashed potatoes? Sure seems feasible to us.

Season 2 takes place in 1984, one year after the events of the first season. Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, Brett Gelman, Linnea Berthelsen, Dacre Montgomery, Rob Morgan, and Sadie Sink all join the returning Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and Charlie Heaton. Look for it to return Halloween 2017.
