Horror History – Hooper or Spielberg: Who Directed Poltergeist? The Answer is HERE!

One of the most hotly debated subjects in horror history has always been, “Who directed 1981’s Poltergeist? Tobe Hooper or Steven Spielberg?” According to the film’s official credits, Hooper directed and Spielberg co-wrote and produced. Yet, it’s hard to deny the Spielbergian fingerprints all over the movie.
Today, as found by Bloody Disgusting, the answer has pretty much come in the form of a rare making-of featurette that has ONLY appeared on the film’s laser disc edition.
During it you’ll clearly see that Spielberg was indeed calling the shots for more than a few key moments in the film, thereby explaining the whole vibe of the flick in general that’s unmistakably more Spielberg than Hooper. Hooper did direct some of the film, though, so the answer to who directed the film is pretty clear… Although Hooper got the credit, they pretty much both did.
