One film which absolutely delighted us this year with its brash trashiness was Piranha 3D. If you saw it, then you know exactly what we’re talking about. One of the film’s promotional highlights was an interview with the always entertaining Ving Rhames, and as the sequel, Piranha 3DD, approaches things aren’t so crystal clear as to his character’s fate. Could he return?
While doing press for Death Race 2 Ving spoke a little bit about the possibilities of a return.
As per Bloody Disgusting:
“They’re talking about [it], because you don’t necessarily see me die – and even though I’m not in the film that much, people responded to my character. So that’s why they’re talking about doing something. But I think they’re writing it as we speak.”
We shall see.
The sequel is being directed by Feast‘s John Gulager, who will be working with his long-time collaborators Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan on the screenplay.
F/X genius Gary Tunnicliffe will be on board to handle the film’s guaranteed to be gruesome effects work, of which he said previously, “They’re gonna go for it! It’s gonna be blood and tits ahoy, certainly…trust me, I think this will leave the first one, in terms of blood and sex, in its wake, from what I’ve already heard. I was on the phone a couple times going, ‘oh, my god’.”
Look for Piranha 3DD in theatres on September 16th, 2011.
