Russell Brand Remakes a RentaGhost

Not content with just remaking different kinds of American projects, Hollywood has outstretched its claws across the pond so that it may dig into another popular UK series.

According to Deadline New York Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the British comedy show “RentaGhost” and will develop it into a Beetlejuice-style afterlife feature comedy vehicle for Russell Brand.

He’ll play Fred Mumford, a recently deceased guy determined to be more productive as a corpse than he was during his life as a slacker. He attempts to set himself up in a business with a couple of other ghouls, starting a temp agency for the dead. Mumford and cohorts rent out ghouls and ghosts to the living until things go awry.

The original series, created by Bob Block, ran on BBC1 from 1976-1984. Look for more soon!

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Somebody needs to get Brand hooked on drugs again. Maybe next time he’ll end up with that fatal OD he should have had before he became famous for… whatever it was. The “look at my dinkle and ball bag” joke? Hilarious. That fucking thing never got old.

Maybe we could start a ‘charity’ to send him heroin. Stop him now before he reaches Will Smith levels of fucking irritating.

  • The Woman In Black

I’m surprised so many people are down on Russell. I think he’s hilarious – and adorable. Get Him to the Greek was definitely the best comedy I saw all year.

Never found the guy funny, even before he was famous, same thing with Ricky Gervais.

Comes as no surprise that they’re remaking this as the BBC have been going through their back catalogue for past several years.
Early word is that the upcoming remake of Whistle and I’ll come to you (with John Hurt) sucks.
At least you yanks have had a couple of good remakes.

Oh and if anyone here who is a uk producer, please for the love of god, no more Robin Hood!

Gervais USED to be funny… the original series of The Office (UK) were genius and hilarious, but since he got successful (i.e. lots of money) he’s got increasingly smug and odious, and now he’s more irritating than anything else.

I’ve never understood the appeal of Brand either, but right now he’s knobing Katy Perry, so for that reason I envy him… a little… but not too much!

Used to watch “Rentaghost” growing up in England… I’d be interested in seeing what a remake does with this series. Camp and cheap… much like Brand – a match made in heaven!
