Catherine Hardwick to Direct Maze Runners for Fox

Ever since the Twilight craze began, director Catherine Hardwicke has found lots of material coming her way concerning teens in some form of supernatural peril. Enter the newest one for Fox based on Book One of James Dashner’s Maze Runner Trilogy.

According to The Wrap Hardwicke is in early negotiations to direct Maze Runners for 20th Century Fox.

The Maze Runner is the first book in James Dashner’s popular sci-fi trilogy, which Random House’s Delacorte Press published in October 2009. The author is expected to adapt the screenplay.

The story follows a boy named Thomas who wakes up in a strange place called the Glade with no memory aside from his first name. The Glade is an enclosed structure populated by other boys and is surrounded by tall, stone walls that protect them from monsters called Grievers that live in the Maze, which surrounds the walls around the Glade.

Doesn’t it just sound all warm and sparkly already?

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Enclosed structure? Populated by other boys? No memory? Oh this is easy. He was a choir boy and is now in an underground facility built by Catholic priests where they keep the young boys until they have had their fill ass raping the little guys. Case closed.

Funny how crap like this gets greenlit within a year of a books publication, but it took ages for someone to finally get off their ass and tackle The Dark Tower saga.

Hey, here’s an idea: They should change the title to The Maize Runners and fashion a plot about people smuggling corn into enemy territory during wartime. That’d still be more interesting than this impending debacle sounds.

Didn’t anybody else notice how clumsy her direction is? It wasn’t just vile source material; this woman has no grasp on the tools of her craft.
