Anyone out there who has seen Delicatessen and City of Lost Children should know the kind of vision the filmmaking team of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro can bring to the big screen. For years now, Jean-Pierre has been directing solo projects including Alien: Resurrection and Amelie, but no peep has been heard from Caro for a long while.
Finally, the director has a new project wrapped up and ready to sell off; Dante 01, and it sounds very badass; The future is a dark place in which we send our prisoners off-planet to cool their heels in prision ships, and the Psychiatric research unit Dante 01 has just gotten a new arrival.
He is the sole survivor of an encounter with an alien intelligence we can’t even imagine and he’s going through all manner of hell as his inner demons struggle to come to terms with the monstrous power within him. The power cannot be held onto, though, and soon it infects all the residents of the ship, causing a massive, bloody rebellion, literally allowing hell to break loose.
Damn. Good stuff, no? Check out Gomorrahy for a slew of stills from the film, and look for more news on it soon as it’s being offered up for sale at Cannes!
