Premiere of 30 Second to Mars Short Film Hurricane

It’s finally here! After a week of provocative teasers and a flurry of recent tweets about it being banned from network TV (more on that in a bit), 30 Seconds to Mars’ horror and sex themed short film “Hurricane” is finally available to the masses, albeit in a (for now) censored version.
The video, directed by Bartholomew Cubbins (aka Jared Leto), has been previewed through six separate trailers. Whether it was The Gimps, who are the evil characters seen battling the band; Rosewood, a mysterious man who appears to be keeping a deep secret; or just the spotlight of each band member playing the music that they love, the clips kept fans on the edge of their seats speculating on the mystery behind the full-length version of the film.
As the band’s frontman Leto describes it, “Hurricane” is a “meditation on the violence of sex and the sex of violence. The video is a surrealistic dream, nightmare, fantasy through the streets of New York City at night where the people and places that are normally reserved for the darker recesses of this town are kind of brought into the light and celebrated. It’s like a big, giant art opening really where the freaks have taken over the town.”
As for the “banning”, check out guitarist Tomo Milicevic on Twitter and Jared Leto’s official blog, where he goes into quite a bit of detail as to the issues broadcasters had with the film. Basically violence wasn’t an issue so much as the bondage theme. Leto reassures his fans, “I am looking to find a creative solution that works for all.”
Thankfully the Internet is still censor-free, and we can expect the full-length, unedited “Hurricane” soon!
