Hilary Swank joins The ResidentHammer Films continues to prove that they’re done messing around with direct-to-online films and are ready to start working on serious movies today with the first casting for Antti J. Jokinen’s The Resident: Oscar winner Hilary Swank, according to Variety.

Sure, Swank’s involvement in a horror movie doesn’t guarantee it’ll be good (The Reaping anyone?), but it can’t hurt. In The Resident Swank will play a doctor who moves into a new apartment and begins to suspect she’s not alone. She soon learns that her landlord is a stalker and … well, hopefully something interesting happens.

The Resident is the feature debut for Finnish director Jokinen, who cut his teeth on music videos for people like Will Smith, Korn and Celine Dion before co-founding Solar Films, Finland’s largest TV & film production outfit. His experience, coupled with what we can only hope is a good script, could mean The Resident is worth following.

Hammer is also currently working on The Wake Wood, which recently shot in Ireland, as well as the Matt Reeves-helmed remake of Let the Right One In.
