Netflix has yet another new series heading our way next month, titled “Santa Clarita Diet,” and today we have all the early details you need to decide if it should be on your radar or not.

“Santa Clarita Diet” stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as Sheila and Joel Hammond, married realtors who live in the titular Los Angeles suburb. Their co-stars are Liv Hewson as Abby Hammond and Skyler Gisondo as Eric Bemis.

Showrunner Victor Fresco (“Better Off Ted”), Barrymore, Olyphant, Aaron Kaplan, Tracy Katsky, Chris Miller, and Ember Truesdell are executive producers on the series. Nancy Juvonen is a producer. “Santa Clarita Diet” is a Netflix production.

The synopsis is a bit vague, but USA Today got a few more details… Per Netflix, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita with their teenage daughter, Abby, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change, sending their lives down a road of death and destruction… but in a good way.

What might that “change” be? Well, in the series opener Sheila dies but comes back. And while the couple tend to their open houses and daughter, they must also sate Sheila’s unbridled id and undead hunger, first with raw meat and, eventually, the human kind.

The cause of her condition is uncertain. When we meet her in the series opener, she’s just not feeling well. “Presumably, she has been exposed to something — although we don’t know what — which is making her feel a bit off,” Fresco says.

In spite of their newfound challenge, which involves guest stars such as Nathan Fillion, who plays a rival agent, Sheila and pot-smoking Joel are happily married and supportive in their tract house. (The show was filmed almost entirely in Santa Clarita.)

Barrymore says of the tone, “It’s not heavy, [and] it’s not lacking in a sort of sweetness, if you will. But it’s also got bite and backbone and balls. I think it’s a very perfect recipe for 2017…”

Expect to see the first promos for the show this Sunday night during the Golden Globe Awards telecast.
